HAUSER is heading for the spotlight with some exciting and innovative plans of his own

HAUSER is a cellist from Croatia who has been playing since he was a child and is half of the group 2CELLOS, which is known for its covers of popular rock songs. The duo has performed alongside musical greats like Steven Tyler, Andrea Bocelli, Red Hot Chili Peppers, George Michael, to name a few. After ten years together, they decided to part ways.

HAUSER talks to Padrisimo Magazine about his gift to Sir Elton John, how he describes his musical style, and much more.

For our readers, could you introduce yourself and your music in whatever way you’d like?

H: First, thank you for welcoming me here at Padrisimo Magazine. As HAUSER, I've been called a “REBEL WITH A CELLO” because I've dedicated my life to breaking musical barriers, first as 2CELLOS and now as HAUSER. The cello is an extension of my musical heartbeat, and it's been my life's mission, in a way, to bring that sound to the entire world. Because there are no words with the cello, it provides a universal language under which everyone can be united.

Tell us about this beautiful tribute and appreciation “My Gift is my Song” to Elton John.

H: Elton has been an extraordinary friend to me and, of course, to 2CELLOS. On his 75th birthday, I felt a need to express my gratitude for everything he has done. He is the consummate showman, a professional, and such a generous musician that I really wanted to do something special for him, and there is no better way to demonstrate my love and appreciation than through music. This musical tribute is made up of five of his best-loved songs, and it coincides with his ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour’-his last and final tour-as well as the last and final 2CELLOS tour. It just seemed like the natural thing to do.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

H: As HAUSER, I want people to know that the cello is LIMITLESS and that there is something musical in my shows for everyone. The music takes over my body, and that’s something I want to share with the whole world.

How would you describe your musical style?

H: One of the reasons I’m moving forward as a solo artist is my real need to expand musically. My new album, coming soon, will be a global album, the idea of which came from the HAUSER Beach Party. This is a real dance album, with lots of rhythm and beats, because I love the salsa, tango, bachata, and Latin styles. There are also some African rhythms and other sounds. But I also have a strong emotional connection to music from my childhood and classical training, such as Saint-Saens’ “The Swan,” as well as the iconic soundtrack music by Morricone and others. Overall, I would say that I'm a lover, whose style is romantic, energetic, and sometimes poetic. If I connect with the music and it’s good for the cello, I will run with it.

How does it feel to be back on tour?

H: Three years without LIVE audiences due to the pandemic was challenging, so it’s three times as much energy now to share with these world audiences. It feels amazing to be back.

What would you say is the moment that defines the “2CELLOS” show for you?

H: There is this moment when I go down into the audience and really get to feel the energy of the arena. What I do with the fans-touching the hearts of real people-is the real magic.

What was the last thing that made you smile?

H: There are so many things that make me smile, but while I was having dinner in the city of Durham, North Carolina, this week, some lady fans came up to me and told me that they love the way I love my mom. That really made my heart sing.

If you could describe your fans in three words, what would they be?

H: I love this question, but can I have four words instead of three? Lady Gaga has her ‘Little Monsters’ and I have my ‘HAUS OF LITTLE STARS’. Those are my fans, and I love them.

H: Primero que nada, gracias por darme la bienvenida aquí en Padrísimo Magazine. Como HAUSER, me han llamado el “REBELDE CON UN VIOLONCHELO” porque he dedicado mi vida a romper barreras musicales, primero con 2CELLOS y ahora como HAUSER. El violonchelo es una extensión de mi latido musical, y ha sido la misión de mi vida, en cierto modo, llevar ese sonido a todo el mundo. Debido a que no hay palabras con el violonchelo, proporciona una especie de lenguaje universal bajo el cual todos pueden estar unidos.

Cuéntanos sobre este hermoso homenaje y reconocimiento a Elton John “My Gift is my Song”

H: Elton ha sido un amigo extraordinario para mí y, por supuesto, para 2CELLOS. En su cumpleaños setenta y cinco, sentí la necesidad de expresar mi gratitud por todo lo que ha hecho. Es un showman, un profesional y un músico tan generoso que realmente quería hacer algo especial para él, y no hay mejor manera de demostrar mi amor y aprecio que a través de la música. Este tributo musical está compuesto por cinco de sus canciones más queridas y coincide con su ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Tour’, su última gira, así como con la última gira de 2CELLOS. Simplemente parecía lo más natural que podía hacer.

¿Qué esperas a transmitir con tu música?

¿Cómo describirías tu estilo musical?

H: Una de las razones por las que me estoy lanzando como solista, es mi verdadera necesidad de expandirme musicalmente. Mi nuevo álbum, próximamente, será un álbum global, cuya idea surgió de ‘HAUSER Beach Party’. Este es un verdadero álbum de baile, con mucho ritmo, porque me encanta la salsa, el tango, la bachata y los estilos latinos. También hay algunos ritmos africanos y otros sonidos.
